This paper explores the relationship between neoliberalism and strategic spatial planning, addressing the lack of analytical use of these concepts in planning theory. It analyses how the theoretical foundations of strategic spatial planning can be appropriated by neoliberal political agendas in practice. The study argues that neoliberalism and neoliberalisation provide valuable analytical tools for understanding contemporary transformations in planning discourses and practices. It concludes that incorporating these concepts into planning theory enhances critical empirical studies of how spatial planning evolves under neoliberal influences.
