dc.description.abstract | This paper argues for the stronger integration of climate change adaptation into EU Cohesion Policy funding. While mitigation has historically received more attention, adaptation is equally essential for addressing climate-related risks and ensuring regional resilience. Cohesion Policy, traditionally focused on economic indicators, should also consider adaptive capacity and vulnerability, as climate impacts affect both developed and less developed regions. Using the Veneto region in Italy as a case study, the paper highlights how current funding mechanisms overlook adaptation needs and exacerbate inequalities. It concludes that adjusting Cohesion Policy to incorporate adaptation measures would enhance both efficiency and equity in regional development, making climate resilience a central policy objective. | |
