Transformative Planning for Sustainable Futures: Bridging Global Goals and Local Actions through Adaptive Frameworks

Abstract

Planning plays a transformative role in addressing global crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss and inequality. This study emphasizes the integration of environmental considerations into urban and regional planning, rather than prioritizing economic benefits alone. It explores how planning can bridge the gap between global sustainable development goals and local implementation, especially in rapidly urbanizing areas. Using an interdisciplinary approach including case studies, spatial analysis and participatory workshops, this study examines governance innovation, community empowerment and adaptive infrastructure. The findings suggest that transformative planning can foster collaboration, integrate sustainability into decision-making, and support equitable development. The proposed adaptive planning framework promotes flexibility, inclusiveness and systems thinking and provides guidance for addressing complex global challenges and advancing the sustainable development goals.
