A Bibliometric Analysis on the Relationship Between Migration and Urban Design

Abstract

This study examines how migration is addressed in the field of urbanism and, in particular, urban design. Migration, which significantly affects space and social life in today’s cities, is often discussed in the literature through policy and regional/urban scale studies, while its relationship with urban design remains limited. Urban design decisions can influence migrants’ lives, either reinforcing or overcoming social divisions. Using bibliometric analysis, this study explores how the migration-urban design relationship is shaped and identifies literature gaps. Data were collected from Scopus, ULAKBIM TR Dizin, and DergiPark databases. Findings show that migration is mainly associated with topics like housing, urbanization, gentrification, and segregation, while concepts like integration and cultural adaptation remain underexplored. The results aim to guide future research in this field.
