| dc.description.abstract | In the context of China’s deindustrialization, the redevelopment of industrial heritage sites has become central to urban transformation strategies. This study examines the regeneration of Nanjing National Creative Park (NCP), tracing its evolution from a major Qing-era factory to its closure in 2011 and subsequent conversion into a creative industry park. Using a qualitative approach, the research analyzes dominant narratives over different historical periods. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with various community residents to assess heritage perception and identity construction. The findings formed an unofficial “community narrative.” This study reveals the dynamic interaction between dominant narratives and community narratives in the redevelopment of Chinese industrial heritage sites. It highlights the complexity of local residents’ perceptions and argues that these perspectives should be incorporated into the framework of industrial heritage conservation. Moreover, the study emphasizes the importance of considering community voices in ensuring the sustainable development of heritage sites. | |
