Local Appropriation Model for Circular Maker Spaces (CMS) in Istanbul

Abstract

This study focuses on circular maker spaces as catalysts, integrating new technologies and creative industries within Circular Economy (CE) strategies at a local neighbourhood scale in cities within the embedded narratives of equity and just future. The research develops a Local Appropriation Model (LAM) to guide site selection and integration, combining (1) the Local Communities Comprehension Tool (LCCT) to assess local expectations and a GIS-based multi-criteria spatial analysis for site selection. By analysing local dynamics, the study developed the core structure of the Local Appropriation Model based on common findings from six pilot neighbourhoods. Ultimately, it offers an inclusive and holistic framework, serving as a vital roadmap for integrating Circular Economy (CE) strategies into urban environments through CMSs.
