Abstract

This report, prepared within the framework of AESOP and supported by the TEMPUS Programme, surveys the state of planning education in three post-communist countries: Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland. It examines institutional structures, emerging curricula, challenges of transition to market economies, and needs for international cooperation in planning education. The study compiles a directory of planning schools, ministries and research institutes, and presents analyses of survey responses. It identifies priorities for new curricula, staff training, access to literature and journals, international exchanges, and collaborative research. The report stresses AESOP’s role in supporting planning schools in Central and Eastern Europe and formulates proposals for stronger East–West cooperation in higher education and professional training.
