Improving Planning Education in Europe – 1999–2000 Final Report (Application: 10065-CP-1-00-1-IT-ERASMUS-ETN)

Abstract

This report presents the outcomes of the three-year Thematic Network Project (TNP) “Improving Planning Education in Europe,” coordinated by AESOP under the Erasmus programme. The project was structured into three Working Groups: Planning Research, PhD Research, and Education/Professional Links. Activities included extensive surveys of European planning schools, doctoral programmes, and professional practice links. The third and final year (1999–2000) focused on consolidating previous findings, developing recommendations, and preparing for dissemination. Key achievements include a European framework for planning research, a classificatory system for PhD theses, and surveys on Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The project strengthened cooperation between academia and practice, encouraged internationalisation of planning education, and identified directions for curriculum reform to address emerging professional challenges in Europe.
