Abstract

This document presents the official programme of the World Planning Schools Congress 2001 (WPSC 2001), held in Shanghai, China, from 11 to 15 July 2001. As the first World Congress of Planning Schools, the event brought together planning scholars, educators, and practitioners from all continents, under the overarching theme “Planning for Cities in the 21st Century: Opportunities and Challenges”. The programme outlines the full structure of the Congress, including plenary sessions, thematic tracks, paper sessions, roundtables, and special events. Sessions address a wide range of topics central to urban and regional planning at the turn of the millennium, such as globalization and regional development, planning governance and participation, sustainability, planning law and institutions, urban design, transportation, housing, planning education, and the application of information technologies in planning. In addition to the academic sessions, the programme documents the organisational framework of the Congress, including session chairs, discussants, institutional affiliations, steering and programme committees, and local hosting arrangements. As such, the programme serves both as a practical guide to the event and as an important historical record of the structure, scope, and international character of the first World Planning Schools Congress.
