Abstract

This position paper examines the social dynamics of mobility environments associated with inner-city high-speed rail (HSR) stations. It seeks to complement existing studies that conceptualise stations as both node and place by focusing on the spatial and social dimensions of everyday life around them. Two analytical methods are outlined: people’s use of place and rhythms of daily life. The paper proposes gathering such data through distributed, collaborative approaches, including experimental planning courses. It argues that integrating social life considerations into decision-making for station development constitutes a measurable parameter of spatial quality, reflecting a city’s potential success in the global marketplace.
