This study examines Generation Z’s (born 1997-2012) demand patterns and urban development alignment in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Nanjing. As key drivers of urban innovation and economic growth, Gen Z exhibits atomized lifestyles and self-actualization tendencies. A demand-supply evaluation framework is developed across three tiers: basic growth, relational cohesion, and developmental leap. Empirical analysis reveals supply-demand mismatches: Shanghai and Hangzhou excel in employment ecosystems and recreational infrastructure, while Nanjing achieves higher youth satisfaction despite weaker supply capacities. Findings highlight Shanghai’s lag in leisure services, Hangzhou’s deficiency in cultural amenities, and Nanjing’s need for entrepreneurship support. The study advocates policy optimization to bridge gaps in youth-oriented urban development, emphasizing tailored strategies to enhance productivity and social integration for this generation.
