Abstract
Arid deserts, among the most fragile ecological regions on Earth, face acute challenges from climate change and human development. This paper analyses regional climatic conditions and identifies three key planning considerations: water supply as the foundation of biological survival, energy saving in high-heat environments where solar energy is abundant, and protection against wind and sand. Traditional building wisdom, such as shaded spaces, heat-insulating materials, and the Karez irrigation system, offers valuable lessons for modern planning. Based on these insights, the paper proposes strategies including compact land-use layouts, efficient transport networks, multi-level green systems with irrigation, and climate-adapted architectural guidelines. By applying low-carbon planning concepts and integrating environmental protection with energy-saving technologies, urban development in arid deserts can both improve living conditions and generate unique cultural and artistic value.
