Abstract

This draft final report summarises the work of the AESOP/Socrates Thematic Network Project’s Working Group on Planning Research. It reviews the state of planning research in Europe as of 2000, mapping institutional frameworks, thematic priorities, and methodological approaches across different countries. The report discusses challenges in integrating research and education, the need for greater international collaboration, and ways to strengthen links between planning theory and practice. Recommendations focus on improving research capacity, promoting interdisciplinary methods, and enhancing the role of planning research in addressing societal and spatial development issues in Europe.
