Mapping for the Integration of Spatial Planning and Climate Adaptation

Abstract

This paper addresses the intersection of spatial planning, climate adaptation, and ecosystem services (ESs). With global warming, rapid urbanisation, and environmental degradation threatening ecosystems and urban sustainability, there is a growing need to integrate ESs into planning and policy. The authors argue that mapping ESs can identify ecologically sensitive areas and serve as a key tool for sustainable urban development. By combining ecological and socio-economic drivers, such mapping can guide rational spatial development policies and support the integration of climate adaptation strategies into spatial planning.
