Spatiotemporal Evolution Characteristics and Planning Strategies of Population and Construction Land in Shrinking Chinese Counties

Abstract

This study focuses on the contradiction between population loss and construction land expansion in China’s shrinking counties. It explores the spatiotemporal change patterns of permanent population, urban population and construction land through three time sections: 2000, 2010 and 2020. On this basis, the decoupling model is used to further analyze the degree of coordinated development of population and construction land in shrinking counties, summarize its characteristics and causes, and compare them with international shrinking cities. Planning strategy recommendations are proposed to optimize the human-land relationship and promote coordinated and sustainable development.
