dc.description.abstract | The paper explores how cities integrate economic, spatial, and cultural factors in shaping urban form and settlement patterns. Focusing on Dar es Salaam, the authors propose a new scale of intervention based on a formality gradient, linking settlements to mobility structures such as the BRT system and peri-urban agriculture. The study highlights how spatial patterns contribute to sustainable urban metabolism, integration or segregation, and suggests methodological guidelines for addressing housing and public realm challenges. The approach envisions a sustainable balance between grey and green infrastructure, aiming to regenerate urban areas and redefine urban–rural relations. | |
