Abstract

The Book of Abstracts of the AESOP / ACSP 5th Joint Congress 2013 brings together a wide range of research contributions and professional insights presented at the international conference titled “Planning for Resilient Cities and Regions,” held from 15 to 19 July 2013 at University College Dublin, Ireland. The congress, jointly organized by Association of European Schools of Planning and Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, represents a major platform for exchange among scholars and practitioners in the field of urban and regional planning. The volume includes abstracts of papers organized across multiple thematic tracks, reflecting key contemporary challenges in planning. These include advances in planning theory and practice, social justice and diversity, climate change and environmental sustainability, housing and urban regeneration, transport and infrastructure planning, governance and institutions, land-use policy, and innovation in planning education. A central focus of the congress is the concept of resilience, explored as a unifying framework for understanding and enhancing the capacity of cities and regions to respond to economic, environmental, and social challenges. Contributions address planning under conditions of uncertainty, risk management, climate adaptation, participatory processes, and evolving governance models. Through a diverse set of methodological approaches and case studies from different geographical contexts, the Book of Abstracts provides valuable insight into current research trends and practical applications in planning. As such, it serves as an important resource for researchers, educators, and professionals, as well as for a broader audience interested in the development of sustainable and resilient urban and regional systems.
